For most of us, we know that vinegar is what the elder women in our lives used to pickle certain foods. But did you know there are tons of uses for this smelly concoction?
White vinegar, as with most kinds of vinegar, it is actually made by distilling and fermenting different types of foods.
Historically, vinegar was made by distilling such foods as potatoes, sugar beets, molasses, or whey. However, the exact recipes used in the fermentation process depended solely on the region where it was being made and the seasons.
Today most kinds of vinegar are produced from distilling and fermenting grain alcohols. Otherwise known as ethanol. This type of fermentation does not have any nutrients, therefore, other ingredients such as yeast or phosphates must be added to the process to achieve proper fermentation.
