What is ‘Dash Diet’?

There is a new way to treat hypertension out there in 2020. It is called the Dash Diet. Dash is short for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. This is a dietary plan that is utilized in the reduction of hypertension in high blood pressure patients.

This diet implements the reduction of sodium in the everyday diet. The dash promotes a diet that is rich in potassium and magnesium. It also uses calcium to help lower the sodium levels in the body.

What are some of the foods that can be eaten with this diet?

Foods that are from all the food groups can be included in this diet. There are almost no restrictions. Heres the breakdown:

  1. Fruits and veggies-4 to 5 servings daily
  2. Low-fat and non-dairy-4 to 5 servings daily
  3. Whole grains-1 to 3 servings daily
  4. Refined grains- a few times a week, these are treats.
  5. Healthy fats- 2 to 3 servings daily
  6. Lean meats, poultry, and fish- 7 ounces daily (no red meat)
  7. Legumes, nuts, and beans- 4 to 5 servings a week. (¼ cup)

What is the purpose of this type of diet?

The Dash Diet is a diet that was formulated to aid in the reduction of hypertension. It is safe for everyone but is suggested by health coaches to bring down blood pressure in hypersensitive patients.
